Hawaii Day 5

December 12, 2011 - Monday – I enjoyed sleeping in until around 9 a.m. – so nice to not have anybody waking you up and a very dark room. We got up and headed out to find a place to eat breakfast. We walked for a little while when we came upon a IHOP. We were happy to have some American style food – I ate pancakes, bacon , hash browns and scrambled eggs. The food was good, but very pricey. We ordered the most inexpensive meal and it was about $9. Most of the breakfast meals were double that price.

We ended up going snorkeling that afternoon with a tour guide that we set up before coming to Hawaii. The guy picked up us around 12:30 to find out that we were the only ones going. It was so nice to have a tour instructor all to ourselves. We ended up going to Hanama Bay – last time we came to Hawaii we went snorkeling out on a boat and didn’t see much of anything except for a couple of brown fish. This time was so different. Hanama Bay is an inlet where the sea life is preserved. The water is very blue and makes for some amazing pictures from up above. We took a tram down the large hill where the water is located. The water was a little chilly at first, but very easy to get used to. The snorkel gear we were given was so nice. The snorkel wouldn’t let any water come back into it which made for a very enjoyable experience where I wasn’t drinking water the whole time. We started practicing in a very shallow area. We were only in the water a couple of minutes before we were led over to where a turtle was. How fun to be snorkeling next to a turtle. What beautiful creatures! We ended up seeing many different types of fish – parrot fish, about 5 different green sea turtles, yellow tangs, and tons of different colorful fish. We took a water camera with us and hopefully got some great pictures. Our instructor took our camera while we were next to one of the sea turtles and tried to take our picture with us in it also. I am excited to see what it looks like. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We snorkeled about 1 hour, but was plenty of time since we were pretty tired by the end of that hour.

The tour guide dropped us off next to the Outrigger On the Reef which is next to the beach. We enjoyed spending about one hour on the beach before the sun went down. Byron went in and enjoyed looking for seashells in the water. I went in also, but was very content just sitting on our beach mat soaking in the sun rays.

We went back and showered that night before heading out for our last night on the town. We ate dinner at Tony Romas. I ordered chicken that was really dry – not very happy with my food. Byron ordered ribs – I thought they tasted really good, but he wasn’t very happy. We paid a lot for it and neither was very happy.

We went back to the International Market to get some remaining gifts. We had beautiful weather and very enjoyable evening. We bought probably much more than we should have, but it was really fun. Byron is really good at bartering with money and this market place was a perfect place for that.

Walking outside it was always just the perfect temperatures. We didn’t need a jacket except for maybe one time where I got a little chilly – but later took it off since it got hot. In Utah it cools off at night, but here is stayed the same very comfortable temp all night long. I will miss the very warm temperatures especially since it snowed while we were gone.

Hawaii is just the perfect place to vacation. So green and beautiful – the weather is a perfect 80’s all year round – the people are so nice and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Now back to reality – I am ready, though. It has been so nice to not have any cares in the world and to have Byron by my side day in and day out.

Our room - such a fun and nice hotel - we were really impressed.

Walking along the sidewalks, their are written Hawaiian names all over and what they mean.  It was fun to look for them and get a feel for what these beautiful words mean.
