Sept. 10th - Tanner was playing in a soccer game when a ball was kicked directly at his hand. He was such a great sport to continue playing the rest of the game. By that evening I knew it had been broken as he was in so much pain and the swelling was pretty bad. The following morning we headed over to the doctor's office to get x-rays and have it looked at. Sure enough it had been broken right below the thumb. The doctor put his hand into a new type of cast that gets warmed up then will get shaped around the hand before hardening. He wore this particular cast for one week, but kept on complaining about how much it hurt. We ended up going back and having a regular cast put on his hand. I had never seen this process before of putting on a cast. Tanner was pretty excited to finally get a cast on it so he didn't have to worry about getting it hurt while playing soccer. It also made doing homework a challenge as it was his writing hand. I helped him for the first couple of days write down all of his homework as he dictated it to me. He finally got it taken off on October 9th and was so very excited to come to this day. He said it smelt really bad and it had been completely covered over with magic marker by Tanner when he was bored one day. It was quite the site!
The swelling and color difference after about 15 hours.
The funky cast put on that on that was actually for the wrong fingers so it pulled his middle finger too far over creating a very uncomfortable week.
Sept. 18 - Went back into the doctor and got a real cast put on this time.
Oct. 9 - Getting his cast cut off. The smile says it all. FREEDOM!
