We ended up sitting next to an older lady from the North Shore in Hawaii that was flying home from being in Utah for a couple of months. She was so nice and we enjoyed talking with her. She told us some great spots to see turtles while in Hawaii along with some great shopping and eating places. She was so nice to also give us her husband’s phone number in case we had any problems arise while in Hawaii.
Byron & I both got a couple of hours of sleep in on and off during the 6 hour flight. My bottom was definitely sore and I was ready to land. We flew in at 1 p.m. Hawaiian time. While we were at the baggage claim, Byron bought me a plumeria lei – what a wonderful husband I have! It smelt heavenly and was so fun to wear the rest of the night. As we walked outside of the airport, the breeze was pretty strong and so warm. The skies were pretty dark in parts of the sky and looked like a storm was coming in.
We got into a taxi and headed to our hotel, Outrigger Luana. The taxi driver kept pushing the gas pedal and then letting off so we would jerk every few seconds as he drove. By the time we finally got to the hotel, I was feeling sick. He was so nice, though, giving us Vietnamese candy and cookies. The taxi cost us $35.
Our hotel room is really nice. It has a small kitchenette. The hotel is downtown Waikiki so very close to the beach, restaurants, and shopping. We walked a couple of blocks away to Hard Rock Café to eat a late lunch/dinner. We ordered the nachos appetizer and then shared the turkey burger which was delicious. The food was very filling. We ate in an outdoor eating area. As we sat there, I could hardly believe that we were in Hawaii. It is so beautiful and peaceful here.
We walked over to the International Marketplace to look at many booths. We bought a couple of items. Byron enjoyed using his bargaining skills and got some great deals. We then walked farther down the street toward the beach area in Waikiki. The sun was out and it was gorgeous. The beach area was very crowded with many people enjoying the water. Byron & I were not dressed for the beach with levis, socks and tennis shoes, so we just enjoyed walking around the cement areas/sidewalks. We wanted to see the sunset, so found a bench to wait it out. Around 5:45 the sun set with many boats in the background. It was such a beautiful picture!
As we were heading back to our hotel, we found a group of Hawaiian performers singing Christmas songs and traditional Hawaiian songs. We watched them for about 30 minutes and were thoroughly entertained. We decided to then head back to our hotel and call it a night. It was a full day and we definitely didn’t get the amount of sleep we should have last night. We stopped off at Arby’s to grab some dinner and took it to our hotel room to eat.
Today Tanner had his band concert. Thankfully Dad & Mom Beck along with Melissa were able to attend for Tanner. I am anxious to hear how it all went. Melissa sent me some fun pictures of the kids being crazy through texts. It was so fun having technology where we can communicate so quickly so far away. Byron also got a new phone (I-Phone 4S) a couple of days ago and this came in very handy. The GPS is awesome especially when trying to find out how far we are from a location. Byron just pulled out his GPS, put in the address we were trying to find and it located our current location on a map. I think I might have to get one of these cool phones soon.
We ended up relaxing in our room while watching about half of the movie, “Ghost.” We headed to bed around 9 pm – we were beat.
The view off our deck - gorgeous!
Cool display of guitars all the way up the stairway and all over the ceiling.
International Market Place
Beach - it was just beautiful!
